The Oaks Primary School
Our goal was to design a play space aligned with the school’s philosophy, providing engaging experiences to instill a continuous eagerness to learn.
About the Project
We had the pleasure of working with the Oaks Primary School who’s aim is to deliver an exciting and ‘unique’ curriculum, one which stimulates children’s imagination and helps them develop a love for learning and a thirst for knowledge! Our task was to design a new play space aligned with the school’s philosophy, providing practical experiences to engage and motivate children, instilling a perpetual eagerness to learn more.
We enhanced the playground area by removing a section of the fence, effectively expanding the available space. Capitalising on the natural embankment slope, we aimed to create a multi-play environment that combines physical activities with imaginative play for the children. Our installation included an Embankment Climbing Structure, featuring a Stainless Steel slide, allowing children to gracefully descend from the hexagonal play platform. Additionally, we incorporated a Rope and log ladder, along with a ramp, providing opportunities for children to enhance their strength and balance as they navigate up and down these exciting elements.
We recognise the power of role play which stimulates the imagination and expands language skills so we introduced a construction zone at the base of the slope adjacent to the tarmac playground. In this Construction area, children are inspired to employ their imagination through role play, fostering problem-solving skills and promoting cooperation with their peers. This designated space serves as an excellent platform for enhancing both fine and gross motor skills. The Construction area encompasses a sizable Sandpit, Site Plan Chalkboard, Bucket and Rope Pulley System, a functional workbench, and a designated zone for children to store various tools and materials.
We applied mulch along the embankment and introduced durable artificial grass across all access points, ensuring year-round usability and enhancing the area’s appeal to create an inviting and enjoyable environment for the children.
