About the Project

Montpelier Primary School’s ethos is through the word ‘family.’ They ensure each and every child feels valued and celebrated, challenged and supported,  so we knew we needed to create an outdoor space which would reflect this.

The school’s small EYFS playground was transformed for year-round flexibility by incorporating artificial grass and rubber wetpour, creating distinct play zones within the limited space. We incorporated a Messy Play Area, which included a Mud Kitchen, equipped with a store, scales, and various utensils, serves as a space for children to engage in role play, enhancing fine motor skills and broadening their vocabulary as they articulate their kitchen processes and recipes. To enhance the kitchen’s ambiance, we introduced a fence, a chalkboard, and an ornamental Mud Kitchen Spoon Sign.

We introduced a rubber wetpour Bike Track with graphics featuring zebra crossings and directional arrows. Additionally, a draped tunnel was incorporated over the track, along with a spacious timber bridge, providing children with an exciting circuit for racing on bikes and other modes of transportation. This initiative not only enhances their gross motor skills but also improves balance and upper and lower body strength as they navigate corners with speed and agility. The installation of artificial grass surfacing at the heart of the track not only provides a welcoming play area for children but also introduces a textured element to the otherwise what was a plain tarmac playground.

Incorporating movable rolling planters for enhanced flexibility, we provided both children and teachers with the ability to adjust their placement as necessary. These planters serve as an encouragement for activities such as digging and planting flowers and vegetables, whilst building upon their fine motor skills. This not only imparts valuable knowledge about the surrounding world to the children but also instills a sense of responsibility as they actively nurture the growth of these plants.

“After obtaining three quotes for our playground project, we decided to go with Playground Imagineering for the following reasons: I was very impressed with their presentation and proposal as they planned the project with our needs in mind and I felt I was receiving a bespoke service rather than an off the peg solution. As a result the product matches our needs and that of the site perfectly. They were always professional,  responsive and when changes were requested, they were dealt with smoothly and without question. I would have no hesitation in recommending Playground Imagineering.”
