Handcross Park School

Handcross Park School requested a wow factor, and we believe we delivered! Our goal was to design a play space that promotes physical activity, sparks children’s imagination, encourages social interactions for EYFS pupils, and supports all areas of the curriculum.

About the Project

Handcross Park school asked for a wow factor and we feel we hit the mark with this one! We wanted to create a play space which would encourage physical play, ignite the children’s imagination and encourage social interactions for their EYFS pupils whilst supporting the provision of every area of the curriculum.

We created zoned areas of play for the children, whilst keeping a dedicated pathway to guide parents and teacher safely through the playground.

We incorporated a variety of Messy Play areas for the children to engage in. Our Water Wall with Rocky River Bed, includes a recirculating water system with pump and inter changeable water chutes for the children to understand the concept of water.

A Den Making Area with an imitation fire pit, allows imaginative Play, team building exercises and builds self-esteem. Our Den Making areas come with a Den Making Kit, which includes Natural Manilla Rope, Camouflaged Net and a Tarpaulin sheet to create a Den Structure. Creating the den structure itself also encourages the children to communicate, express themselves and learn new life skills.

We recognise the power of role play which stimulates the imagination and expands language skills. The Stage is a designated area that allows children to portray the world around them through stories and performances. It’s a great opportunity to show off their skills and to learn from their experiences. A large chalkboard backdrop is great way to help set the scene for their performance or take part in mark making activities.

Within our Construction area the children are encouraged to use their imagination through role play and build on their problem solving skills, as well as learn to cooperate with their peers. It is also a great place for children to enhance their fine and gross motor skills. Our Construction areas include a large sand pit and work bench. Also a zone for the children to store different tools and materials.

To create endless physical play across the playground we installed an interactive Bike Track. The Bike Track included Traffic Lights and an arch way for the children to navigate their way around, improving on their gross motor skills and their overall fitness.

We installed our Sherwood Clamber Stack which is always a hit as it is a natural looking climbing structure suitable for the EYFS age range. As the children clamber their motor skills, balance, strength and confidence improves.

We understand the importance of outdoor play, away from the usual four wall classroom, so we installed a waterproof shelter. It is also a place for parents to wait for their children after school.
