About the Project

Ourselves and the teachers at Our Lady, Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School were excited to get started on this project to completely transform the outdoor space for their KS1 pupils.  The initial steps involved excavating the current grass space to prepare for the installation of new wetpour and bonded rubber mulch surfaces. Selecting diverse hues in the wetpour and introducing mulch not only defined distinct play areas but also maintained a natural woodland ambiance around the playground.

Eager to introduce a physically engaging dimension to their play area, we selected our Brecon Climbing Structure for the children to enjoy! This impressive climbing structure, arranged at varying heights, motivates their KS1 pupils to traverse, ascend, and suspend themselves. The children can now employ both their hands and feet as they navigate through diverse challenges, including swinging steps, a Traverse Wall, and Vertical Scramble Net. The rope elements incorporated into the design contribute to the development of children’s proprioception and enhance their sense of balance.

We incorporated large geometric Sleeper Planters to complement the unique layout of the space and offering children the chance to engage in hands-on activities like digging and exploring the growth of plants. This initiative not only enhances their fine motor skills but also fosters a sense of responsibility and a deeper understanding of the world they inhabit.

Recognising the significant role of role play and performance in fostering language skills and confidence within peer interactions, we introduced a Treated Timber Stage with planters, customised arch sign, equipped with modular bench seating. This purposeful addition provides a shared space for both students and teachers, encouraging collaborative engagement in activities that promote language development and boost self-assurance among peers.
Ultimately, we had the pleasure to contribute to the creation of a memorial by installing a bench which was generously donated to the school in honor of one of their students.

“After obtaining three quotes for our playground project, we decided to go with Playground Imagineering for the following reasons: I was very impressed with their presentation and proposal as they planned the project with our needs in mind and I felt I was receiving a bespoke service rather than an off the peg solution. As a result the product matches our needs and that of the site perfectly. They were always professional,  responsive and when changes were requested, they were dealt with smoothly and without question. I would have no hesitation in recommending Playground Imagineering.”
