About the Project

Pupils at Highfields Primary School now have fantastic, open-ended Fitness and Adventure Trail, where they can enjoy climbing, balancing and improving their overall physical skills.

The children now have the opportunity to take on a new challenge as they tackle the various obstacles of the Fitness & Adventure Trail. Upper and lower body strength is improved when travelling across the Tyre Traverse. Balance and footwork is tested as they step across the Balance Beam and hand eye coordination is developed when climbing across the Vertical Scrambled Net. Agility is also tested with our Up & Over frame. These are just a few elements that will help children improve their gross motor skills

As well as supporting physical development, trail items are also great for imaginative play. Pupils can take themselves into an imaginative world where they escape monsters through a woodland forest or on the hunt for treasure!

A Multi-Use Games Area space was also created on the small playground to help contain ball games. Using a 2m high green mesh fence with single leaf gate the area can be monitored and access restricted when necessary. Green Artificial Grass Surfacing also allows for the area to be used all year round with simple fence mounted plastic goal outline for sports.

“The children love their new playground it works so well whatever the weather! Our children absolutely love the sandpit and the bespoke treehouse! They especially enjoy building dens underneath the treehouse, turning it into their own little hideaway.”
