About the Project
We have worked with Urmston Primary School on a number of small redevelopment projects throughout the playground’s. Often using existing equipment footprints to help save on surfacing costs which can be a considerable chunk of a project budget.
One of the first challenges had to creatively solve was an exposed railing and ramp to the school kitchen. The children were using this to sit on which was proving a bit of a safety issue. We therefore created a traverse wall for the children to clamber around. It solved the problem of the fence, and also added some addition physical play equipment to the area. In the same playground we also added in a stage with planters and customised sign to foster creativity and performance.
An existing play structure had succumb to years of heavy use and therefore needed replacing, we set about using the same footprint to create a bespoke unit which incorporated a range of physical activity, role and imaginative play like. The unit uses a mixture of timber and HDPE plastic and consist of three varying height platforms, two of which have a clatter bridge in between. A rock ramp ladder and fireman’s pole add some physical challenge and then a range of themed play panels below the decks cater for imaginative play.
The most recent project was to develop and install a play ship with various trail like elements to help with children’s physical development. We love a ship theme as it allows us to get creative with how we include physical play elements whilst also helping with imaginative and role play. The two different platforms have a bridge joining the two and various access and egress routes off the unit including a vertical scramble net, rock ramp, log ramp, parallel ropes and traverse wall.
