About the Project
The teachers at Wincobank Nursery & Infant School, expressed that they had limited outdoor space which was in a tired and worn condition. They wanted it turning into an inspiring outdoor space, that had as much play value as possible for their pupils. We took note that children in particular loved the idea of a Messy Play Area as well as other unique play elements which could be placed around the playground.
We got to work designing something bespoke that would fit perfectly within the available space. Incorporating a large Sandpit with a sheltered roof seemed the perfect idea for these children to take part in endless Messy Play in any weather conditions. Inside the Sandpit we installed a Play Platform as well as a Bucket and Pulley System, for the children to maneuver the sand. Sand play encourages children to story tell and expand their vocabulary as they describe their processes. The play possibilities are endless!
We incorporated a Crawl Tunnel Mound and designed this to blend in seamlessly to the landscape. The Crawl Tunnel Mound creates a place for imaginative play and for children to improve their gross motor skills as they crawl over, around and through the tunnel.
With an existing tyre park making use of the natural rises and falls of the space, we added a bonded rubber mulch surface to allow access to the path all year round.
